The last month has been an absolute whirlwind. I went from planning and celebrating my 30th birthday – which was amazing, by the way – to hoping on a plane straight to Dubai for a week then Amman for a second week. I was able to spend just enough time in my own kitchen to whip up a not-too-sweet Candied Orange Semolina Cake, before jetting off to Lyon for a work trip filled with meetings (and lots of chocolate croissants). Unfortunately for me, I came down with the flu for the entirety of the trip, so I wasn’t able to fully appreciate the food capitol for all it has to offer. Mom’s Fruit Salad
My mom makes an amazing fruit salad, and that’s because of her secret ingredients (namely the sauce). I’ve only made her fruit salad on two occasions. It’s not complicated but it packs in a lot more calories than you’d suspect. So don’t be fooled by the word “fruit.” Although I’ve measured out the amount of condensed milk and orange juice, you may have to adjust to your taste. I will warn you, however that you don’t need to add more than 1/2 tsp of orange blossom water. Too much will be flavor overload on your senses. (more…)
Orange Cream Cakes
I’ve been so out of the cooking loop that last weekend I went on a baking spree. Yes, Baking spree. I spent my Sunday making goodies. Honestly, I’m not even sure who’d eat them since I’m doing my best to avoid sweets. A friend of mine gave me a basic cake recipe and I decided to do a little experimenting by adding in a different flavor. Let’s just say, they were requested as an after dinner dessert. Win. (more…)
