DIY Mason Jar Cake

DIY Jar Cake_3

Mason Jars – the new DIY it item brought to you by Pinterest. I’ll admit it; I love them. They’re the most versatile DIY item out there. You can put almost anything in a mason jar, pretty it up with ribbon, burlap or twine and impress a crowd.

I’ve been known to use mason jars for plenty of projects, including the Salad Bar I pulled together for a bridal shower last month, and baked smores in a jar. This week, I wanted to try something a little more DIY… enter Mason Jar Chocolate Cake.

Let me start by saying, not everything turns out the way you expect it to – even for me. Sometimes, it really is an experiment and if it turns out I feature it on the blog. (more…)

Baking Themed Bridal Shower

photo-53

One of my closest friends, Fiza, is getting married in a couple weeks. As part of our obligatory best friend duties—and our undying love for her of course, the TTC and I hosted her bridal shower. It was one of my favorites to pull together because the theme was so different from anything I’ve done in the past. Fiza is an undercover baker. I’ve mentioned in previous posts, that she needs to open up her own bakery. Her love of baking led me to pull together a full baking-themed bridal shower.

Letter Shaped Father’s Day Cake

June at the Fayyad household is a month of celebrations! Both my parents celebrate their birthdays, it’s my parent’s wedding anniversary mid-month and of course, Father’s Day.

I get an unexplainable amount of joy pulling together parties and making crafts for other people. Namely, the people I love. Just give me the opportunity, and I’ll be there with my craft box! Lemon Poppy Seed Cake with Strawberry Glaze

The weather is finally getting beautiful here in DC, which only means one thing… Cherry Blossoms. A gift from the Japanese in 1912 as a token of friendship between the two countries, these beautiful flowers bloom for only as long as 14 days, usually around the end of March/beginning of April. Since my birthday falls on April 4, and I’ve grown up in the DC area, I am absolutely convinced that they bloom just for me! (more…)

No Bake Cake Pops

  Cake Pops_5

Cake Pops have been the craze for quite a while. I love the simplicity of a bite-sized cake dipped in chocolate. What I don’t like is spending unnecessary hours in the kitchen making cake pops from scratch. Don’t get me wrong, one of my best friends, a master baker – we’ll call her Fiza – makes cake pops to die for. Fiza honestly makes the most deliciously delectable desserts. She puts her heart and soul into it and they always turn out great. She will be humble and tell you she’s not that good, but I promise you, once you taste Fiza’s baking you will never want store-bought again. (more…)

Skillet Almond Cake

Almond Cake_2

In general, I’m much better at making savory foods than I am sweets. But I occasionally get a wild hair and decide to try my luck at making sweets.

Cakes aren’t really my thing. Last year, I tried to bake a birthday cake and all went well until I started frosting it and started completely falling apart. Needless to say, it was a major fail and I ended up buying a cake and sticking a candle in it. But this Almond cake is fool-proof. (more…)
