We’re on food # 2 for Baby M, Pears. We’re alternating between fruits and veggies. And yes, we did not start with fruit. Research suggests that it doesn’t actually matter whether you start with fruits or veggies. We started with Avocado. Pears need more than just mashing to be ready for Baby to eat. They need to be cooked, even when serving in large pieces to avoid choking. I knew my Instant Pot would come in clutch one day for baby food.

VERDICT: SHE DIDN’T REALLY LIKE IT
FOR PUREED PEARS: Peel the pears, remove the pits and cut into 1 inch pieces. Place the pieces in a steamer basket in the Instant Pot, add 1 cup of water, and pressure cook on high for 5 minutes. Remove the pieces and place in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Cool before serving to baby.
FOR PEAR PIECES: Keep the skin on, cut in half (6-9 months). You can keep the peel on the pear to help baby hold the half better. Peel and cut into 1 inch pieces (9-12 months). Place the halves, or pieces in a steamer basket in the Instant Pot, add 1 cup of water, and pressure cook on high for 5 minutes. Cool before serving to Baby.
To store the pureed pears, I simply placed them into a silicone baby food tray and put it in the freezer. This way, we’re all ready to go the next time we give Baby M pears.
