Orange Blossom Cake

*Major Announcement* We’ve moved! And by we, I mean Me {and the blog}. Remember the whole part of my life where I have a day job? Well, that’s the job that actually pays the bills, and allows me to do all the fun things that I do from travel to fun activities — Oh right, and shopping! I was presented with an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. Which means, Measuring Cups Optional (MCO) and I are taking on a new adventure for the next couple years… in Jordan.

What does this mean for you, as the reader? Not much, really. You’ll still be able to access all the recipes on the blog. If you’re signed up for the newsletter, you’ll still get notifications when new recipes are posted. You’ll also be able to see all the recipes, and more on the Instagram Page. Puff Pastry Baked Brie

Puff Pastry Baked Brie

I love, love, LOVE cheese! Have I mentioned that before? On any given day I can live on cheese and bread, and Diet Coke of course. Baked Brie is probably one of my favorite cold-weather renditions of cheese. There are just so many ways you can make it. I’ve toyed around with savory baked brie topped with a spicy cilantro walnut blend. My all-time favorite, however, is this sweet Puff Pastry Baked Brie.

Every time I’ve served my Puff Pastry Baked Brie, people have fallen in love with it. It’s really easy to throw together for a small gathering, a snack for game night, or even a fun starter before dinner. I’ve never made a Puff Pastry Baked Brie that didn’t vanish by the end of the night. That’s how good it is. (more…)

Fresh Zaatar Focaccia

Fresh Zaatar Focaccia

I’ve been dying to get my hands on some fresh zaatar to make Fresh Zaatar Focaccia. Unfortunately, fresh zaatar is hard to find around DC. Really hard to find. I, however, am a very determined woman. When I want something, I find a way to get it. That’s probably why I’ve been told it’s so hard to find gifts for my birthday. I usually get what I want before anyone knows I’ve been pining over it. Shopping and food cravings alike, I am determined to get what I want. This time, I wanted fresh Zaatar Focaccia. (more…)

Beet Walnut Dip

Beet Walnut Dip

I’m generally not a picky eater. Really, I’ll eat just about everything, but there are a few things I just can’t get myself to like. Melons (all variations except watermelons) and beets. I just never liked beets—well, unless they were pickled with turnips. I avoid beet salads, and beets in pretty much any other form. But I decided to give beets another chance. Truth be told, it’s because I had some beets left over from making pickled turnips that I fully intended to give to my mom {an avid beet-lover}, but never got around to, and I just didn’t have the heart to throw them out. I gave them a second life, in dip form. (more…)

Pomegranate Chicken and Sweet Potatoes

Pomegranate Chicken and Sweet Potatoes

Happy New Year! We made it! Through all of 2018, through the holidays, through the ups and the downs and the in-betweens of last year. We did it. I’m so proud of us.

The first of the year is a time to look back and reflect on the last year. It’s a time to think about our successes, as well as our failures; to find ways to continue our success, and find ways to work through our failures. But most importantly, it’s a time to look forward. As cliché as it sounds, the new year really is clean slate. It’s fresh. It’s the good things we bring along with us and the not-so-great things we leave behind. The New Year is full of dreams, goals and opportunities. (more…)

Roasted Tomato and Goat Cheese Soup

Roasted Tomato and Goat Cheese Soup

You know what goes perfectly with tomato soup? Cheese. Usually grilled cheese sandwiches. But really, any cheese will do. You know what goes great with roasted tomato soup? Goat cheese.

Believe it or not, there are people out there who don’t like cheese at all! Lactose intolerance I can understand. Dislike of cheese, on the other hand, I just can’t wrap my head around. If I could, I would live on bread and cheese for the rest of my life. My mom used to be one of those people. She’s told me a few times that if it weren’t for my dad (and his love for cheese) she probably wouldn’t be a cheese eater at all. Shocking. (more…)
